Netflix And King Julien Host Early New Year’s Eve Countdown For Kids

Netflix will stream a countdown special for parents who want to celebrate the New Year with their children, but don't want to keep the kids up way past their bedtimes.

More than a third of U.S. parents (34 percent) start the New Year's Eve festivities early to convince their children that the ball drops hours before the clock actually strikes midnight, according to a survey by Wakefield Research on behalf of Netflix.

The partying lemur King Julien from the animated TV series "All Hail King Julien" will help youngsters ring in 2015 with a three-minute "high-energy, music-filled" special that parents can stream at any time, starting on Dec. 29. Netflix will provide the special countdown to subscribers in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, the U.K., Ireland, the Nordics, the Netherlands and France.

"I was totally bummed when I heard that some of my favorite little party people aren't allowed to stay up until midnight for the biggest party of the year," King Julien, King of the Lemurs, said in a statement through Netflix. "But then I realized I'm king, I make the rules! So move over, Ryan Seacrest," I've got my very own on-demand countdown part on Netflix. That means the New Year's Eve party is always on - just how it should be! What better way to ring in Julien-uary?"

In addition to starting the party early, 36 percent of parents try to find a New Year's countdown in different time zones. Another 22 percent of parents stage their own countdown to tuck their kids into bed before midnight.
