News broke on Saturday that actor and comedian Chris Rock had filed for divorce from his wife Malaak Compton-Rock after 19 years of marriage. Compton-Rock announced the split in a statement saying that the two decided to go their "separate ways."
A new report by Media Take Out claims that Rock and his wife have been living separate lives for two years and the actor will soon announce that he's dating his "Top Five" costar Rosario Dawson.
"They didn't want to announce it while their movie 'Top 5' was still being released- caused they didn't want people thinking that Rosario is some type of home wrecker. She's not, Chris hasn't been with his wife in about two years."
"They got together while making 'Top 5'... but kept it quiet," the source added. "Now I think Chris filed the papers on Malaak because he wants to go public with it."
A source close to Rock and Compton told People magazine that the split wasn't surprising.
"This was a long time coming. Chris has known it wasn't salvageable for a while. He was the one to file because he knew it was time to just move forward already," the source said.
On Saturday, Compton released a statement asking for privacy "during this transition in our lives."
"After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways," Compton-Rock said in a statement. "Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life's blessings, even when faced with difficulties."
"While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the center of my life and their well-being is my top priority," the statement continued. "It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives."
