Leonardo DiCaprio is partying hard, living life on the edge and tossing little people around in the newly released trailer for "Wolf of Wall Street." In the movie he plays Jordan Belfort a stockbroker who "lived fast and made millions," USA Today reports.
In the first scene of the clip Belfort is discussing how wildly successful he is at the age of 26 making $49 million a year "which really pissed him off because it was three shy of a million a week." Belfort celebrates his success by blowing money on cocaine, prostitutes, wild parties and a yacht once owned by Coco Chanel, the Daily Mail reports. In one controversial scene Belfort is seen partying in his office and literally throws a little person wearing all Velcro at a gigantic dart board.
According to USA Today, the film shows how the young New York stockbroker, who wrote a memoir under the same time, enjoyed his success before it all came crashing down around him when he was approached by the FBI to help in a case involving securities fraud and corruption. Belfort made millions by creating "Stratton Oakmont, a boiler room firm based on Long Island designed to 'pump and dump' shares by hyping their prospects and quickly cashing in once their price rose," the Daily Mail reports.
He reportedly made $200 million from the fraud and spent five years in federal prison once he was caught.
In the memoir, which the movie is based off of, Belfort describes himself as a "stock market multimillionaire at 26, federal convict at 36."
"It's easier to get rich quick when you don't follow the rules," he said in an interview with the New York Post but said all the proceeds from his book went to victims of the Stratton Oakmont fraud.
"I'm a wolf who became a more benevolent character," he said. "I refuse to glorify my past."
The Daily Mail reports that Belfort was seen hanging out with DiCaprio while the film was being made.
"The Wolf of Wall Street" also stars Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey and will be released Nov. 15.
