With Apple's announcement that put Siri in the car with its new iOS 7 in the fall, smartphone services integrating themselves into vehicular transport seems to be the new trend for people who want to stay wired in but still be safe. Despite all of the steps being taken to bring mobile connectivity into the mainstream, precious little has been done in terms of connecting people who chose a motorcycle instead of a car as their preferred mode of transport.
According to Mashable, a team of developers at LiveMap is using crowdfunding site Indiegogo to try and get money to finance a project that will develop a helmet for motorcyclists that will take a page out of the Google Glass' book and provide the wearer with a high-tech dashboard s that drivers can reference navigation systems and use voice controls to get other augmented reality features.
This kind of helmet already exists but, at the moment, but only fighter pilots have access to anything like it. The project already has the financial support and backing of the Moscow Department of Science and several other Russian organizations. Setting their site higher, LiveMap is looking for additional funding to get the project up and running internationally.
The helmet would sport a colorful, translucent picture capable of projecting onto the clear visor, similar to the Google Glass, this will give the wearer the ability to access some smart features while still being able to see the road. The build is known as "augmented reality."
With safety as the key factor for all mobile connectivity, the helmet will be built with a microphone inside so that all commands can go through the wearer's voice, thus keeping his or her hands free. The command "help" will also notify local authorities the wearer needs assistance, should he or she ever end up in a car accident or some other emergency.
LiveMap hopes to ship the helmets on August 2014 for $1,500 a piece. Any device purchased after June will be $2,000.
