The Chicago Blackhawks face the Boston Bruins on Monday for Game 3 of the NHL Stanley Cup Final. The puck drops at 8 p.m. ET. Catch the action on NBC or watch the live stream HERE.
A dismal first period in Game 2 warranted choice words in the locker room. Bruins' Tyler Seguin, who had been wired for in-game audio by NBC, covered his microphone in advance, the Associated Press reports.
"It was really a mix of everybody saying something," Seguin told reporters after the game. "I definitely knew it was coming, so I threw my shoulder pads in the training room and put a towel over (the mic) so no one could hear what we were saying. I think we needed that team wake-up call."
Whatever the team said in the locker room worked. Boston went on to tie the series Saturday night with an overtime win, 2-1
"I think Tuukka (Rask) pointed out that was a pretty terrible period by our team," Bruins forward Chris Kelly told reporters. "If it wasn't for Tuukka, it would have been a lot worse."
Boston returned from the locker room after the first period with renewed intensity. They put on the defensive pressure from that point on, keeping Chicago to 15 shots and delivering 50 hits.
"They're in the Stanley Cup final for a reason," Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane told reporters. "It's not like you're going to have the momentum or dominate for three periods. Obviously, we'd love that.
We know momentum is huge in the playoffs. You want to keep it as long as you can."
Saturday was the second time the teams needed overtime to determine a winner. The overtime win marked the 10th period the teams have played in over the span of two games. Cautious of fatigue, both teams stayed off the ice on Sunday.
"It's a lot about getting your rest," Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith told reporters. "It's not rocket science, you just get sleep and do as best you can and do all those little things to get ready to go."
