New video footage of Lil Wayne reveals the rapper trampling an American flag during filming for his new music video "God Bless Amerika" over the weekend, TMZ reports.
The lyrics to the new song are equally controversial, containing the lyrics: "My country 'tis of thee / Sweet land of kill 'em all and let 'em die / God bless Amerika / This ole' godless Amerika."
During the video shoot, Lil Wayne is shown rapping into a microphone, a giant American flag behind him falling before he proceeds to step over it while performing as a crowd of onlookers watches stoically behind him.
This isn't the first time Lil Wayne has been the subject of controversy over his artistic choices. On May 3, Pepsi dropped the rapper from his position as spokesperson for Mountain Dew due to offensive lyrics about civil rights activist Emmett Till, according to the Associated Press. A publicist for Lil Wayne cited "creative differences," while PepsiCo said in a statement that Wayne's "offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand."
Wayne sent the Till family a letter of apology, but Rev. Wheeler Parker Jr., a Till cousin and witness to his abduction, said that the apology fell short for the family. "It's mind-boggling to me that they partnered with him in the first place," Parker said at the time.
