Mota Designs Wireless Charger for Giving GoPro Cameras a Quick Power-Up

Mota, the company behind the Smartring wearable, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new charger created to make charging GoPro cameras a much more convenient experience.

The Mota Wireless Charger is designed to solve several problems that owners experience, such as the need to power it up frequently or remove it from a housing to plug the camera in or take the battery out, according to CNET.

With this charger, which consists of a dock and an adapter, users can mount the camera, as well as the housing, on a dock to power up their GoPro, and they won't need a special battery either. The dock comes in the form of a 6,000mAh battery that has two slots for fitting the housing mount, and a small receiver on the camera's port cover plugs into the Mini-USB port.

Mota says users can charge their GoPros just by mounting them on the housing once the receiver is attached, CNET reported. It is also possible to charge other devices at the same time since the charger comes with a spot on the top and a full-size USB port on the side. The charger is currently capable of fully powering up devices in 3.5 to 4 hours, and Mota plans on bringing that charging time down to 2 to 2.5 hours.

The new charger is available now for $55 to early bird backers, and the shipping is expected to begin in April or May 2015.

Those interested in charging their GoPros quicker will have their chance to get a look at Mota's prototype of the charger at CES 2015.
