Funny or Die presents their biggest comedy event yet, Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival, headlined by Dave Chappelle. The tour which kicks off Aug. 23 in Austin, Texas will include 13 stops ending Sept. 22 in Phoenix, the Huffington Post reports.
This will be Chappelle's biggest return to the spotlight after he abruptly ended his hit comedy show "Chappelle's Show" in 2005 on Comedy Central.
According to Yahoo News, the 39-year-old comedian hasn't too much of a recluse and has been performing impromptu sets in different comedy clubs since he left television.
Chappelle had been rumored for months to be a part of the tour after he performed in New York with Chris Rock, Kevin Hart and others at The Comedy Cellar but the news was confirmed by Funny or Die on their Twitter page. Other comedians joining Chappelle are Flight of the Conchords. Al Madrigal, Brody Stevens, Chris D'Elia, Demetri Martin, Hannibal Buress, Jim Jefferies, John Mulaney and Kristen Schaal and according to the Hiffington Post the festival will also feature "two stages, street performers, vendors, psychics, freaks, tasty treats and more."
Tickets for the Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival go on sale June 21.
In 2005 Chappelle shocked everyone after he abruptly left his comedy gig with Comedy Central. The star left for South Africa and didn't tell anyone about his departure except for his brother. There were reports that he was suffering a mental illness or either hooked on drugs but Chappelle denied both telling Oprah Winfrey in an interview that is disappearing act was due to stress.
"I wasn't crazy but it is incredibly stressful," he told Winfrey. "I felt in a lot of instances I was deliberately being put through stress because when you're a guy who generates money, people have a vested interest in controlling you."
He continued telling Winfrey that he would often go to work and feel horrible.
"I felt like a prostitute or something," he said. "If I feels so bad, why keep on showing up to this place? I'm going to Africa. The hardest thing to do is to be true to yourself, especially when everyone is watching."
