Nicki Minaj Recalls Having An Abortion As A Teenager

Nicki Minaj's hit album "The Pinkprint" has been garnering rave reviews since it dropped on Dec. 15. In it, she openly discusses deeply personal issues, including the end of her 11-year relationship and her decision to have an abortion as a teen, E Online reported.

"One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it's something I've kept very private," the "Super Bass" singer said in an interview with Rolling Stone.

In the interview, she discusses the abortion that she initially went public with on a mixtape entitled "Autobiography" and later delved into more deeply in "All Things Go."

"I thought I was going to die," the Young Money rapper says of getting pregnant while attending LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York. "I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I'd ever gone through."

Though Minaj said the decision has haunted her since, she feels it was ultimately the right decision for her, The Daily Mail reported.

"It'd be contradictory if I said I wasn't pro-choice," she reveals before adding, "I wasn't ready. I didn't have anything to offer a child."

Minaj said she drew on personal pain and hardship as inspiration for the album, deciding to scale back her wild alter egos.

"I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone," she says, hinting at her personal hardships post-split. "I struggled with 'Do I express these feelings?' And I decided there's no reason for me to hide. I'm a vulnerable woman, and I'm proud of that."
