Iggy Azalea apparently kept the bad news to herself for about a month. Then on New Year's Day she went on Twitter to wish her fans a "Happy New Year"-and that's when she revealed a medical diagnosis that will alter her actions in 2015.
The Australian rapper tweeted that has been diagnosed with TMJ, which is short for temporomandibular joint dysfunction. This disorder can cause pain in your jaw and affect the muscles that control jaw movement, according to boombox.com. The condition affects the muscles and nerves surrounding the jaw, causing pain and restricted movement, with stress thought to be a major contributing factor.
Azalea explained, "I'm gonna make more of an effort to take care of myself in 2015, stay away from all the drama & hopefully not have any flair ups," adding "Also last month I was diagnosed with TMJ which isn't the best."
The singer-songwriter also noted that she thinks her condition may have been exacerbated by stress and wrote that medicine does not always help people to deal with such things, reports digitalspy.com.
"I don't think western medicine all the way acknowledges what a huge toll mental stress takes on our bodies," she proclaimed. "But I do believe it is a factor. Anyhow I don't think it will ever prevent me from doing anything I want to but it has made me realize it's important to look after yourself."
Azalea has been involved in a back-and-forth brouhaha with fellow rapper Azealia Banks in 2014. Banks recently accused Azalea of being ignorant about black issues in hip-hop.
The "Fancy" singer also revealed that she is planning to start work on her second album next week, writing: "I'm back to work on my second album next week... Anxious to get going on it. The excited kind of anxious."
