They were very hard to get and many of those who wanted one simply couldn't without spending an absurd amount on eBay, but one 20th anniversary PS4 owner is seeking $20,300 to destroy his console.
Charles Tiongson from Las Vegas intends to smash his system to pieces on camera using a sledge hammer. Why $20,300? He notes that someone bought an anniversary console for $20,100 on eBay, and so he's asking for an extra $200 on Kickstarter to obliterate the console.
The "victim" will get its own unboxing video, before Tiongson features the system in a second video during which he will destroy it.
Here's what he has to say about himself: "I'm your average everyday guy. I enjoy snowboarding, gaming and drumming for my band. But, more importantly, I'm that guy that is going to make a video about destroying his very own PlayStation 4 20th anniversary edition."
As for what you can get if you contribute to the fundraising campaign: For $5 your name or PSN ID will feature in the credits. For $50 you'll be sent a small piece of the broken console or you could splash out and contribute $100 if you want a bigger piece. Should money not mean all that much to you, for $400 you'll get the broken PlayStation Camera, while $500 will net you the destroyed DualShock 4.
At the time of writing, four people have contributed a total of $121. Tiongson's some distance from his $20,300 goal and the Kickstarter will last another 58 days...so who knows what the ultimate outcome will be.
