The Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes are set to face off in the first ever installment of the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Jan. 12 in Arlington, Texas.
The Ducks, known for their relentless, dynamic offensive attack which features wave after wave of talented young weapons and a scheme that stretches opposing defenses to every corner of the field, will be short one of their fastest, most reliable talented young weapons against the Buckeyes. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Devon Allen will apparently miss the game due to a knee injury, according to FOXSports.com's Bruce Feldman.
Allen sustained the injury while fielding the opening kickoff of Oregon's 59-20 rout of Florida State in Thursday's Rose Bowl Game.
"Allen left the sideline in a wheelchair with his right knee heavily bandaged shortly after suffering the injury," Feldman reported.
The blow will be significant for Oregon, as Allen is considered, according to Feldman, both the fastest man in college football and the team's most consistent receiver. It's not the first knee injury to hinder the dynamic Ducks squad - the team had already lost supremely talented cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu to an injury that kept him out of the College Football Playoff altogether.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Allen has caught 41 passes for 684 yards and seven TDs this season.
Allen also competes on the Ducks track and field team - he is the NCAA and USATF's current 110-meter hurdles champion.
