Microsoft Offers Heavily-Discounted Surface RT Devices to Schools and Colleges

Microsoft's Windows RT has not been the best selling Microsoft product to date. In fact, the company recently cut the price of some of the tablets devices that run the RT operating system. In an attempt to fix the ailing sales of its new OS, Microsoft announced it will slash the price of its Surface RT tablet for schools and colleges.

According to DailyTech, through the "Microsoft Surface for education limited time offer" the company will begin offering discounts on the device starting this month. Schools and colleges that are interested in purchasing the tablet for use in labs and classrooms, will be offered the tablet for $199, marked down heavily from its retail price tag of $499.

If students want to have the attachable touch keyboard, the price then pumps up to $249 (retail $599). With a type keyboard, the cost then becomes $289 (retail $629). The price drop is expected to make the tablet look appealing to students who need a little bit of technology to boost their productivity.

The offer will reportedly run until Aug. 31 giving parents time to make it a last minute bon voyage gif to their son or daughter who is going off to college in the fall.

Unlike many deals of its kind, Microsoft won't be setting a minimum order number to K-12 schools or colleges. Organizations looking to take advantage of the deal need only to fill out a purchase order before the deadline and wait for a confirmation from Microsoft.

The offer will include schools all over the world including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdon and, of course the U.S.

Microsoft is expected to give more details on the offer on June 24 when the company has a "working lunch," according to DailyTech.
