Superstar Taylor Swift is known for getting "revenge" on her former love interests by incorporating them into her song lyrics, but it looks like her former flame John Mayer is doing the same thing right back with his new single "Paper Doll" off of his new album "Born and Raised," Spin reports.
Swift's not-so-subtle song "Dear John" from her third studio album "Speak Now" chronicles her heartbreak after her short relationship with Mayer ended in 2010 with the lyrics: "Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone / Don't think I was too young to be messed with?/The girl in the dress cried the whole way home / I should've known."
Mayer released a lyric video today for his new single "Paper Doll," a light jazz-pop song that seems to be laced with potential lyrical jabs at Taylor Swift. "You're like 22 girls in one," the lyrics read, a possible reference to Swift's recent single "22" from her latest album, "Red."
The line "and none of them know what they're running from" is a possible reference to the lyrics in Swift's "Dear John," and the lyric "someone's gonna paint you another sky "may be a response to Swift's "John" lyric about her blue sky being painted to rain.
Swift has not yet tweeted anything about the new song, and a rep for Mayer didn't return MTV's request for comment.
