The San Francisco 49ers will interview former Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan sometime this weekend, NFL.com reports. The 49ers are currently in Denver to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase at the moment.
San Fran defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has been with the team for four years, and is considered one of the top candidates for the head coaching vacancy in the wake of Jim Harbaugh's departure to the University of Michigan.
Shanahan's name has also been mentioned in relation to the Chicago Bears' open head coaching position. Shanahan won two Super Bowls with John Elway and the Broncos, but largely disappointed in four seasons with Washington. Shanahan was just 24-40 with the Redskins, including three last place finishes in the NFC East.
Shanahan has only had two winning seasons in his last seven years as an NFL coach.
