A Polish woman regained consciousness during brain surgery and was able to ask her doctors how the surgery was going, Fox News reported.
Iga Jasica, 19, had the procedure to remove a cancerous lesion that had grown on her brain. According to the doctors, Jasica came to when the anesthetic wore off. While her brain was exposed, surgeons said her health and life weren't compromised.
"Despite coming round, she didn't feel anything and was never in danger," neurosurgeon Dawid Larysz said.
He said that Jasica wouldn't have felt pain or been able to see anything. The teen said she doesn't remember waking up during the surgery.
The surgery itself may have caused neurons in the brain to fire that would have woken Jasica up, but investigators are looking into the possibility that the drug was administered to her in the wrong way, according to the Daily Mail.
When the brain is exposed, it's even rarer for someone to wake up during surgery.
"I can't remember much but the doctor said he talked to me about cats, which I love," Jasica said. "'I missed Christmas because of this operation but it is the best present I could have had as I am now feeling great."
