The surprising decision to fire Vice President of Player Personnel Tom Gamble earlier this week continues to have far-reaching effects for the Philadelphia Eagles, now the NFL's version of a front office soap opera.
The latest bit of rumor fodder is that the environment in the Eagles front office is "toxic" and that bigger changes may very well be on the horizon.
"According to multiple personnel men who have worked under Lurie and Roseman, the team's unconventional front office structure has enabled management turmoil to prevail year after year despite the rash of changes around Lurie and Roseman." CSNPhilly.com's Reuben Frank writes.
"'A toxic environment,' as one former Eagles personnel executive deemed it."
Lurie's preferred system of organizational management is to have the coach, GM and president all share an equal amount of input, all reporting directly to him. Sounds all well and good, but the problem apparently stems from a situation now where Roseman has a direct line to Lurie's ear, and uses it to sway the owner and influence the manner in which information is directed to the top.
It's an unconventional and perhaps unbalanced approach and one that may have led to some discord - discord so severe that the changes may not stop with Gamble.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com says that someone he trusts very much within the league tells him that "something big" could be going on behind the scenes for the Eagles.
Later, while appearing on 97.5 The Fan, Florio, per Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com, offered some clarification, saying that while nothing was certain to happen, big changes could in fact be coming.
Such an ambiguous statement leaves the mind to wander to a number of potential outcomes, but John Middlekauff, a former NFL scout and contributor for CSN, says that his sources around the league are telling him that Kelly at least isn't going anywhere.
