It may be a little early in the summer to think about fall but as the Starks like to say "winter is coming" and along with the cold weather will be a dark stout inspired by the hit HBO show "Game of Thrones," according to the Syracuse Post-Standard.
This fall the folks at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, N.Y., will release a beer called "Take the Black Stout" inspired by the guardians of the Wall, the Night's Watch. While the men of the Night's Watch have to give up their rights to any titles and swear an oath of celibacy they would still be allowed to enjoy a pint of the ale that boasts 7 percent alcohol by volume.
Prior to season three's debut Brewery Ommegang released their first beer inspired by the series, Iron Throne blonde ale.
Take the Black Stout will be available in 750mL bottles featuring a label with a Weirwood tree on it designed by a52 studio, the same studio that designed the show's opening credits. Demand for Iron Throne was so high that the brewery is doubling the amount of Take the Black that they are making, according to Zap2it.
Beer Pulse reports that the label describes the brew as having an earthy taste:
"A stout as dark as the winters that once engulfed Westeros, as robust as the men who swear their oaths at the Weirwood tree, chocolate and caramel sweetness are balanced by hop bitterness, roasty, woodsy notes, and an earthy finish."
When the partnership between Brewery Ommegang and HBO was announced prior to the release of Iron Throne Simon Thorpe, President and CEO of Brewery Ommegang, made a statement about why the pairing was made.
"HBO has been the definitive producer of high-quality, innovative, and 'water-cooler-worthy' original programming, and 'Game of Thrones' continues that legacy," Thorpe said. "What better partner for our brewery which prides itself on re-imagining the best of beer? 'Game of Thrones' is rich, fascinating, complex, daring and unexpected. Many lovers of Ommegang feel the same way about our fine ales. We think it's a unique partnership for two unique brands."
Take the Black Stout will be available in fall 2013.
