Watermelon Oreos: 'I Am Frankly SHOCKED, These Were Good, REALLY Good.'

Goldfish was known for its small, cheese crackers but decided to try the graham flavor. Gatorade was known for its fruity electrolyte drinks but understandably decided to dabble in protein. Nestle has done both water and chocolate milk—two things that don’t mix well at all.

So, expanding your flavors and choices as a food or drink company is not unheard of. What is unheard of is the move recently made by Oreo. Oreo has been the king of the black cookies with vanilla crème filling for as long as anyone can remember. However, they’ve decided to add a new flavor—watermelon.

The cookies are the same as the Gold Oreo and filled with watermelon crème—half the crème being green and half being pink.

“We chose Watermelon because it is a fun, summer flavor that goes great with the Golden OREO cookie,” Oreo Spokeswoman Kimberly Fontes told TIME magazine. The cookie has already received at least one great review.

Food blog JunkFoodGuy.com said the cookie was a nice surprise:

So imagine a watermelon ice cream, emphasis on the cream. Light and refreshing – sort of reminded me of these old school watermelon ice cream cakes I’ve had in the past that looked like this. The Golden Oreo added a nice buttery sweetness to the whole thing. I am, frankly, SHOCKED. These were good, REALLY good.

So who knows? Maybe this is Oreo’s next great success. The cookie is limited edition and can only be bought “while supplies last”, according to the Los Angeles Times. The cookies are $4.49 at Target.
