Is it a baboon? Is it a man? They're stockings of course, worn by Chinese women to deter pesky, pervert men who might be trying to hit on them. The latest popular item in China is taking the internet by storm - hairy stockings.
The strange and unique new product first appeared on China's microblogging site Sina Weibo (China's version of Twitter), and quickly become a viral sensation, with one user @HappyZhangJiang describing them as 'anti-pervert stockings'. The picture has since gone viral, likely due to its idiosyncratic concept.
"Super sexy, summertime anti-pervert full-leg-of-hair stockings, essential for all young girls going out," the caption reads.
Shanghai-based blog ChinaSMACK offered a series of other Sina Weibo posts about the tights, and one user said that emulating Sasquatch could have its drawbacks.
"This will not only prevent against perverts, it'll definitely also result in preventing handsome guys from approaching you," the user wrote.
This is not the first time that China releases a rather quirky product. Last year, we saw the "facekini" which is basically a fabric that masks cover a swimmer's entire head and neck down to the collar bones. Holes are cut for eyes, nostrils and mouth. The women that wear it say they wanted to avoid the harmful sun rays and the aging damage it does to the skin.
