CES 2015: Belkin Expands WeMo Smart Home with Four New Sensors

Belkin presented at CES 2015 on Sunday the latest products of its WeMo smart home brand that features four new sensors: a water sensor, a door/window sensor, a keychain sensor, and an alarm and motion sensor.

The American consumer electronics company didn't reveal the pricing yet but said that the products should be available before the year ends, according to CNET.

Macworld wrote a short review of each sensor so that you can plan ahead in case you plan to purchase one when it's out.

The WeMo Water with Echo Technology is a water sensor that can be attached to any water pipe in the house. It monitors pressure changes and vibrations and sends this data to a smartphone app. This sensor is useful to home owners as it will allow them to track water consumption and detect possible damage and leaks.

The Door/window sensor forms a magnetic field that will automatically turn on the lights when any of them are opened. This will make the homeowner aware of which part of the house is being opened or closed to detect unauthorized entry into the house.

For people who want to monitor who leaves or returns home, the keychain sensor is perfect. The WeMo Keychain Sensor can be secretly dropped into your kid's school bag or attached to a pet's collar so that you can monitor what time they arrive or leave the house.

Lastly, the WeMo Alarm Sensor is like your non-contract monitored alarm system that listens to the noises inside the house. It will alert your emergency contact list as soon as it detects someone or something in the house. Pair it with the WeMo Room Motion sensor that detects heat signatures to double your home protection.

Before getting excited about buying any of these, one has to consider that these sensors will not be fully operational without Wi-Fi technology, which means if the burglar is smart enough to cut off your phone line before entering the house, then no alerts will be sent out to your smartphone app.
