A three-week-old baby reported missing from a California home where three of her family members were shot was found dead in a dumpster on Sunday, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
Eliza Delacruz was believed to be abducted by the same suspect who shot and wounded her mother, father and uncle at a Long Beach home on Saturday.
The San Diego County Sheriff's deputies received a 1:25 p.m. call about a dead baby in a garbage bin in an alley in Imperial Beach, police said. Sheriffs forwarded the information to Long Beach investigators, who later found Eliza, police spokeswoman Marline Arrona said.
A cause of death was not immediately clear.
The child's parents, whose names have not been released, remain in critical condition at a hospital. The uncle was also treated but has since been released.
Not much has been revealed about a motive for the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect. A $1,000 reward is being offered by the San Diego Sheriff's Department for any information leading to an arrest.
"Right now, all we have for a description is a male, Hispanic or African-American, who fled the location with the child," Long Beach homicide Lieutenant Lloyd Cox told the LA Daily News.
But investigators do believe the family may have been targeted. There were no signs of forced entry into the West 51st Street home and no items appeared to have been taken, investigators said.
"We believe this is not a random act," Cox told the newspaper. "We are going through the backgrounds of all individuals who live here, but it appears to be very personal."
