At a launch event in Taiwan, HTC finally unveiled its latest smartphone, the Butterfly S. Although it's newer than the HTC One, it will not quite dethrone the HTC One as the brand's flagship smartphone. Particularly with the HTC One Google Edition of the phone hitting the market sometime soon.
The new handset boasts a familiar 5-inch 1080p display, front facing BoomSound stereo speakers and Sense 5. The Butterfly S runs Android's latest version, Jelly Bean on a quad-core 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, faster than the HTC One.
In addition, the phone boasts a quad-band HSPA/WCDMA radio, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded through microSD cards. The phone's primary UltraPixel camera, a 2.1-megapixel wide-angle shooter, is located on the fornt and offers UltraPixel and Zoe software features.
The biggest new feature from the phone is its 3,200mAh battery. This battery is significantly bigger than that of the HTC One's 2,200mAh pack and the Butterfly's 2,020mAh pack. This allows the phone to be off the charger for longer, making it appealing to the smartphone user who requires heavy usage on-the-go. The phone is available in a small variety of colors including gray, red, white and black.
At the moment, the event only announced a release for the phone in Taiwan. The HTC Butterfly S will be released in the country in July with a price tag of NT $22,900 (about $766 in U.S. dollars). As of now there is no word as to when the device will debut in more areas and countries than Taiwan. It's predecessor HTC Butterfly unit had a similar launch but, eventually opened up in paces like Japan and the U.S. It's possible that the new version will have a similar trek across the world.
