'American Idol' Season 14 Revs Up With Changes—Returning Judges Ready, Top 24 Teaser Video Released (Watch)

The 14th season of "American Idol" kicks off with its premiere episode on Jan. 7. Some things are the same--like the three returning judges--but there are definite changes in the show.

Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. return for their second consecutive year as judges on the Fox music competition series. This is Lopez' fourth season as a judge, Urban's third and Connick's second.

The network has released a video teasing the season's Top 24, with host Ryan Seacrest announcing they are doing things differently this year.

The premiere episode of "American Idol" Season 14 will be broadcast in two parts. The first installment airs Jan. 7 and the second airs Jan. 8 (Wednesday and Thursday), reports International Business Times.

Among the changes in season 14 is the absence of Randy Jackson as a mentor.

Replacing Jackson as mentor is Scott Borchetta, who signed Taylor Swift to his Big Machine Label when she was only 14 years old.

"There's only one reason I'm doing this: 'American Idol' has proven again and again that it can launch superstars," Borchetta told The Hollywood Reporter.

In the promo video featuring the Top 24 of "American Idol" Season 14, the semi-finalists appear in silhouettes, showcasing their vocal prowess to the tune of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good."
