Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson is a senior scheduled to graduate in May, but he isn't yet ready to be done with his NCAA football career.
Golson, who played against LSU less than a week ago, is exploring the possibility of becoming a Tiger, Jim Kleinpeter of NOLA.com, reports.
Golson provided assistance in the Fighting Irish's 31-28 victory over LSU in the Music City Bowl, but could soon join his recent foe. He would be immediately eligible for the 2015 season as the SEC lifted its ban on allowing graduate transfer students last May, leaving Golson with one season of eligibility.
"LSU is exploring the possibility but would have to obtain a waiver from the conference office since Golson was declared academically ineligible for the 2013 season," Kleinpeter writes. "The SEC rule allows graduate student transfers without waivers if the student maintained eligibility, had no significant disciplinary issues at the old school and earned all possible APR points."
Golson, as a graduate transfer, would have to make progress toward a graduate degree, per NCAA rules; otherwise the school can't apply the grad-student exception in football for three seasons.
The 6-foot, 200-pound Golson sat out the 2012 season after being ruled academically ineligible, and then led the Irish to the BCS Championship game after the 2013 season, a 42-14 loss to Alabama. He threw for 256 completions, 3,445 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2014.
He started the first 12 games of this past season for Notre Dame before being replaced by sophomore Malik Zaire against LSU. He did get a number of snaps in the game though, finishing with six completions on 11 attempts for 90 yards.
