Sony was among many tech giants who used CES 2015 this week as an opportunity to show off new gadgets, theirs being the prototype for a headset for athletes that motivates them to train harder.
The hands-free device, called the Smart B-Trainer, comes with several features found in your average fitness tracker, such as a heart rate monitor and a GPS module for tracking your location and performance, according to PCWorld.
Providing a pleasant listening experience is a priority for the B-Trainer, as it includes on-board storage for music that users can listen to while jogging.
"Not only does it keep your running log, it also selects tempo that guides and supports you through your preselected training menu to achieve the goals that you set such as fat burning or improving endurance," Mike Fasulo, president of Sony Electronics, said at a press event Monday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The headset's appearance will remind Sony fans of the Japanese company's waterproof Walkman when they try it on, Gizmodo reported.
The B-Trainer acts as a coach, providing aural advice about the user's progress in their workouts so they can make improvements.
Such advice includes "Your heart rate is too high," as well as positive reinforcement like "Training Finished. Good Job!" when you're done exercising, PCWorld reported.
Sony is currently letting runners try out the B-Trainer on a treadmill at its CES booth. Details about the final version, cost and release date have yet to be revealed.
