‘Assassin’s Creed’ Movie Gets New Release Date in 2016

Finally, the "Assassin's Creed" movie has a new release date. Fox originally planned to have the film hit theaters in August of 2015 but pushed it back late last year. On Tuesday (Jan. 6), the studio announced that the movie is scheduled to be released Dec. 21, 2016.

Justin Kurzel has signed on as director and so far Michael Fassbender is the only actor attached to the film. It's been rumored that the movie's plot will pull from several different "Assassin's Creed" video games.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, in the film a bartender is kidnapped by a large corporation and is forced into The Animus, which allows him to "relive the memories of his ancestors" - who turned out to be assassins - so he could retrieve dangerous artifacts.

Fox also announced the release dates for several other films. Check them out below:

"Gambit," the "X-Men" spinoff starring Channing Tatum, will be released Oct. 7, 2016.

"Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates" will be released July 29, 2016 and so far does not have a cast attached. THR reports that the plot centers around two brothers who place an ad seeking dates for a wedding.

The next "Planet of the Apes" movie was supposed to hit theaters July 2016 but will be released July 14, 2017.

"Fantastic Four 2" was originally set for July 2017 but will now be released June 2, 2017.

"The Greatest Showman on Earth," starring Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, has a Dec. 25, 2016 release date.

"The Mountain Between Us," a romance drama starring Rosamund Pike and Charlie Hunnam, will hit theaters Feb. 10, 2017.
