Stephen Fry tries to keep his personal life as private as possible, but his upcoming nuptials to partner Elliott Spencer have gone public.
The 57-year-old Fry gave formal notice that he plans to marry the 27-year-old Spencer at a register office in Dereham, Norfolk, near where he grew up, according to BBC News. The Sun newspaper first revealed the wedding plans.
The actor-comedian reportedly started dating the young writer sometime last year. He ended a long-term relationship in 2010.
"Stephen Fry is very happy and proud to say that he has set the wheels in motion for a wedding sometime in the future but no date has been set due to a busy work schedule," his personal assistant told BBC News.
Fry recently starred in the last two films of the "The Hobbit" trilogy as Master of Laketown, and appeared as the British Prime Minister in the "24" reboot, "Live Another Day," on Fox last summer. He will once again lend his voice to the Cheshire Cat in the Tim Burton sequel, "Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass."
Fry survived a suicide attempt in 2012 when he took "a huge number of pills and a huge (amount) of vodka" while filming a documentary about homophobia around the world, according to BBC News. He has remained open about his struggle with drugs and depression.
