When it comes to how the media is viewing his new music, rapper and producer J. Cole expressed his disdain for the critics in a recent Twitter rant, according to HipHopWired.
J. Cole recently released his new album, "Born Sinner," as the follow-up to his 2011 debut. The rapper is apparently angered by his new album's sales projections. "Projections f--king up hip hop," he tweeted early this morning. "First week tally's f**kin up hip hop. Your 1 listen reviews are f**king up hip hop. To keep it real, your whole publication is f**kin up hip hop."
Cole didn't specify which publication he was referring to, nor did he name any names. The North Carolina-born artist went on to argue that fans and artists like Drake, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar are "saving hip-hop."
"The PEOPLE are saving hip hop," he tweeted. "You n****s are Critics. Not fans. F**k critics. The people decide," and later added: "I'm not done. I was just celebrating my 2nd album." So far his second album has been met with praise by critics, who call it a "well-rounded package from an artist who has fought tooth and nail to achieve his position in Rap" (Kenny Iandoli, Idolator) and approve of its "stadium-sized beats" (Alex Gale, Billboard) and "improvement as a producer and lyricist" (Jonathan Landrum Jr., Huffington Post).
The first official single off of Cole's new album, "Power Trip," a collaboration with Miguel, peaked at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and #4 on US Rap Songs.
J. Cole also tweeted thanks today for his fans' support: "5 hours signing albums. Thanks to everybody that showed up. Dreamville."
