NFL RUMORS: Cleveland Browns At Odds With Kyle Shanahan?

What a surprise, a member of the Shanahan family is at odds with his team! Sorry, but after the debacle with the Washington Redskins, it's hard to imagine either Shanahan getting along with franchise brass.

Apparently, Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is considering a move due to "friction between some of the coaches and some in the front office," according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

"Kyle Shanahan was eager to strike out on his own again, but landed in a situation that has become dysfunctional for him...," Cabot wrote. "The biggest problem, they say is that the personnel side and coaches aren't seeing eye to eye on some key issues. One source said some coaches became upset when a high-ranking personnel member texted from the press box to the sideline about play calls."

Shanahan will interview with the Buffalo Bills about their open head coaching position Thursday morning. He also has been rumored to be ready to reunite with Mike Shanahan, should the latter receive another head coaching opportunity in 2015. Mike Shanahan has reportedly spoken to the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears and also the Bills about a potential return to coaching. If such a move occurs, it is likely that he'll want his son Kyle as his offensive coordinator again.

While the younger Shanahan wanted to make a name for himself without his father, it's clear that the dysfunction in Cleveland goes far beyond just play-calling issues.

"The coaches also may have felt pressure to start Johnny Manziel in the biggest game of the season, with the playoffs on the line," Cabot wrote. "No mandate was given from the front office, but some staffers felt that the higher-ups wanted to see what their No. 22 overall pick could do. Shanahan dis his best to bring Manziel up to speed, but it was evident he wasn't ready to play when he started against the Bengals, and flopped miserably."

Despite the dismal ending to Cleveland's season, Kyle Shanahan did some impressive work with the offense. The Browns ranked No. 14 in overall offense as late as Week 11 even with Pro Bowlers Alex Mack, Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron missing significant chunks of the season.

"(Becoming a head coach) has always been my goal," Shanahan said in October. "About 95 percent of coaches, if you ask them, that's eventually their goal. Everyone wants to be at the top of their profession, and head coach is the top of our profession."
