The Sega Dreamcast was a quirky system with some truly quirky software...not quirkier than Yoot Saito's "Seaman."
Functioning much like a pet simulator of sorts, "Seaman" challenged players to look after a whacky aquatic creature, which you could speak to via a microphone attachment for the controller, as it evolved and developed a human face that was voiced by Leonard Nimoy. I can assure you that I'm not making any of this up.
If you missed this undeniably silly game first time around, there's a chance you'll get another opportunity in the not-too-distant future. Indie publisher Devolver Digital ("Serious Sam" and "The Talos Principle") are looking to revive the title. Fork Parker, Devolver's CEO, penned a loving tweet to Sega's account begging, "Please let us nerds at Devolver Digital have the license to create a new SEAMAN. Pretty please."
Parker was even so bold as to tweet to "Seaman" creator Yoot Saito, asking, "If you still own the rights to 'Seaman' then let's make a new one." Saito responded with, "Hi. For smartphone?" with Parker replying, "Maybe PC and smartphone?"
This virtual exchange is hardly indicative of a new "Seaman" title, but it just could be the first steps into reviving one of the most oddly addicting games you've never played. Thanks to Venture Beat for the heads up.
