Dog Abandoned In Scottish Train Station, Tied to Suitcase Containing Its Belongings

A Shar Pei puppy was left abandoned at a railroad station in Scotland, tied to a railing with a suitcase full of his supplies, The Guardian reported. An animal shelter is trying to track down the pup's previous owners.

The Scottish Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, an animal welfare not-for-profit, said the fuzzy pet was found on Friday at Ayr railway station. The suitcase contained a toy, food, a bowl and a pillow. Through a microchip, the agency found out that the dog's name is Kai and was able to track who he was previously registered to.

Kai's last known owners said they sold him on Gumtree, a classified ads website, almost two years ago. They weren't aware of the address of the people who bought Kai, so that is where the animal agency's search has halted for now.

"Kai is around two to three years old and is a lovely dog with a nice nature," Scottish SPCA Inspector Stewart Taylor said in the group's release.

The owner could face criminal charges under the country's Animal Health and Welfare Act. It's an offense in Scotland to leave an animal unattended in that fashion, ABC News reported.

"Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible," Taylor said.
