The Los Angeles Clippers reportedly are pursuing a trade for Philadelphia 76ers guard Tony Wroten. The Clippers, who've been linked to Charlotte Hornets guard Lance Stephenson, also reportedly made it known that sixth man Jamaal Crawford is not available to be had.
Los Angeles has been looking for two things, apparently: a shooting guard and a small forward. In terms of a 2-guard, Dan Woike of the Orange County Register reported coach and president Doc Rivers is interested in 21-year-old Wroten.
"Clippers are targeting G Tony Wroten in deal with Philly per sources," Woike tweeted Wednesday.
Wroten, a 2012 first-round pick, was originally drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies and spent time in the D-League before being traded to Philadelphia during the 2013 offseason. Since joining the 76ers, he's flourished and improved each season: he went from averaging 13.0 points per game last season to averaging 17.4 points per game this season.
ESPN had previously linked Los Angeles to Stephenson, although Rivers lacks viable assets and doesn't have much - they're already $3 million over the tax line - financial flexibility. Los Angeles has also been searching for a small forward, but the team's aforementioned problems make it difficult to be a serious contender in a trade.
Although the Clippers appear to be actively trying to make a trade, one of their few assets is untouchable.
"The Clippers continue to shop for a starting small forward, but have told at least one inquiring team that they do not intend to move valuable sixth man Jamal Crawford in the process, sources say," CBS Sports' Ken Berger wrote Tuesday. "The Clippers have one of the least productive benches in the league as it is, and that problem would become even more pronounced if they moved Crawford."
The trade deadline is on Feb. 19.
