Iggy Azalea is learning that fame doesn't come without criticism. Azalea, who rose to fame after the success of her hit song "Fancy," has been the center of a debate about hip-hop and race.
The 24-year-old was involved in a verbal Twitter war with fellow rapper Azealia Banks and has received negative criticism from artists and fans accusing her of insulting the hip-hop culture by calling herself a rapper.
So how is the "Black Widow" rapper taking the backlash?
In a new interview with Vanity Fair's contributor Lisa Robinson, the Australian rapper said the reason she's criticized so often "has 100,000 percent to do with the fact that I have a vagina."
Azalea mentioned that fellow rapper Macklemore isn't criticized for his music and also addressed the issue of being a white rapper, saying, "Well, I never thought it was strange. If you go back to the Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley and Eminem -- they've all basically done black music. I felt this wasn't that far from what we've seen in music history over and over again."
"People have said I'm not real rap or real hip-hop. But I don't care if people think I'm pop or rap. Everyone interprets music differently," she added.
At 16, Azalea moved from Australian to Florida in pursuit of a music career and found success with her "The New Classic." She revealed that her life has changed in "every way possible" following the success of "Fancy."
"Some bad, some good," she admitted. "I can't walk down the street anymore, and I have to be very selective when I grocery shop. I went from having nothing to having everything I could possibly want. It's weird. It's almost scarily easy to quickly forget that you had nothing."
In the interview, Azalea also addressed the rumors about her sex tape.
"I do not have a sex tape; I would remember if I had a sex tape," she said. "But if I did have a sex tape it would be completely f**king fine and my own business."
