The sudden appearance of mysterious crop circles spanning seven hectares in a Mexican city on Christmas Eve has been attracting thousands of people, according to a local newspaper.
A day before the strange patterns mysteriously formed in the barley field of Texcoco, some 15 miles from Mexico City, local residents reportedly witnessed bright lights circling the area in a cloudy and rainy sky, Rt.com reported.
An anonymous woman contacted the police claiming to have seen "the presence of aliens in farming areas and various figures in the crops," the El Universal newspaper reported.
Since then, federal police and government officials have suspiciously been guarding the field, as up to 2,000 people, including scientists on the scene, continue to explore, study and take pictures.
Naturally, the curious phenomenon has garnered the attention of UFO enthusiasts, with around 2,000 visitors flocking to view the enigma, according to UK MailOnline.
However, unlike typical crop formations, this one lacks any particular artistic formation and has irregular patterns edged up on barley, leading social media users to humorously suggest that "aliens responsible could be drunk, as the circles are not well shaped."
Although scientists have proposed that crop circles are either manmade or have appeared as a result of natural events, UFO enthusiasts continue to regard them as signs of alien presence.
For now, the mystery of the massive 7-hectare chunk of land still remains unsolved as authorities attempt to figure out how the crop circles emerged.
Meanwhile, some locals insist on a rather skeptical explanation, blaming the wind - and playing down the version of the revival of chupacabras, or "goat suckers", legendary animal killers, unknown to science, the Huffington Post reported.
