Veteran actor Edward James Olmos has joined the cast of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and his presence will have an immediate effect on Director Coulson and his team.
Olmos will play Robert Gonzales and will make his debut when the ABC series returns in March, Marvel announced Thursday. His arrival "will have massive repercussions" for the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
"Edward James Olmos brings an amazing gravitas to any role he inhabits, something we knew we needed for Robert Gonzales," said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television. "When Olmos first appears on our series, everyone will have to take notice - including our favorite agents."
The Oscar-nominated actor for "Stand and Deliver" last appeared on TV in Showtime's "Dexter." He also starred on the Sci Fi series "Battlestar Galactica" for four seasons as Admiral William Adama.
"S.H.I.E.L.D." will also welcome Blair Underwood when the show returns this spring. He will play the recurring role of Agent Melinda May's (Ming-Na Wen) estranged ex-husband, Dr. Andrew Garner.
"With Blair, we knew we'd found someone to perfectly complement May's stoic personality," Loeb told Marvel.com. "Fans have wondered about her ex-husband since she first referenced him, and Blair has the presence and charm to stand up to our Agent Melinda May."
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" returns to ABC on Tuesday, March 3 at 9 p.m. after the new Marvel TV show "Agent Carter" wraps up its seven-week first season.
