Netflix announced that their gothic horror-thriller show "Hemlock Grove" will be back for a second season, E! Online reports. According to Netflix, the show, starring Landon Liboiron and Bill Skarsgard, was a huge success among viewers. The show is based off the novel "Hemlock Grove" by Brian McGeevy and focuses on two supernatural teens, a werewolf and a vampire, who link up to solve a string murders that took place in their small Pennsylvanian town.
The show debuted on Netflix last April in a 13-episode season that members could stream online all at once. Along with the news that the season is getting picked up again, Netflix also announced that Charles H. "Chic" Eglee will be joining as an executive producer. Chic has worked on hit horror-thriller shows like "The Walking Dead" and "Dexter."
"In its first season, Eli, Brian, Lee and the team did an incredible job of introducing viewers to a unique world of memorable characters," Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix said in a press release. "Chic's addition to the show, and his experience on such fan favorites as 'The Shield,' 'The Walking Dead,' and 'Dexter' will heighten the intensity of the mystery that grips 'Hemlock Grove.'"
The second season is scheduled to go into production later this year and Netflix hopes to premiere the 10 episodes in 2014.
"The worldwide fan response to 'Hemlock Grove' was phenomenal," executive producer Eli Roth told E! Online. "Netflix members loved the potent combination of sexy monsters, mystery, and the dark family soap opera that ended with a huge twist, leaving audiences worldwide totally shocked. Season one was just a warm up for what we have in store for season two. Get ready to be scared in ways you never expected."
