Chris Harrison, host of "The Bachelor" and Mike Fleiss, the show's creator, wants to change the way people date online. Together they created At First Sight, a dating app they believe "will change the world of online dating."
According to E! Online, the app will get rid of the usual dating profile and will be replaced by video. Users will be able to browse and watch video clips of potential matches and if they are interested they can click on their profile to find out more about the person. They can also upload video clips themselves.
"It's really going to be revolutionary," Harrison told "E! News." "It's a fun, Instagram-slash-Twitter-slash-Vine version of a dating site. We do it how we cast the show. We do video profiles in which you are answering questions that a casting director from 'The Bachelor' would ask you. You will see the videos and see if there's chemistry. You can communicate with them and see more videos."
This might be an interesting concept for people who wish to find love online. As Harrison points out it "takes away from the first two awkward coffee dates of getting to know somebody" and saves the person a lot of time in hoping that the person they are meeting really looks like their profile picture.
"Looking at dating sites you can see how horribly antiquated and outdated and sad it is!" he said. "I know there are some successful ones, but I can't fathom how they are. Looking at some Photoshopped picture and a bio and then trusting some psych analysis to figure out if you're compatible?! We would never cast the show that way! So why would you go on a date that way?"
Harrison mentioned to E! Online that he had recently re-entered the dating scene himself and the dating app was something he had been working on for a while with Fleiss. He told the Huffington Post that he actually plans on using the app himself to meet women.
"I have to say I'm sitting around at home, watching all these videos. I find it as compelling as I find 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette,'" he told the website. "I think people are gonna love it."
Harrison and producers of "The Bachelor" are busy searching for the next bachelor to appear on the show adding that they are open to someone new. The show recently came under fire for not having a more "diverse cast."
"It's being decided now. We don't start shooting until September so we have tons of time," he told E! Online. "We'll wait and see who people respond to [from the current 'Bachelorette' season], and they're running people up the totem pole now because we know what's happened. But we actually would love to find someone new. If there were someone worthy and new."
At First Sight dating app is available for iPhone iPad, Android and will also be coming to the web soon.
