Smartphone maker HTC is working with athletic equipment company Under Armour on a line of connected products to give athletes the motivation they need.
The products will be designed to work with UA's fitness apps and website, called UA Record, which debuted on Jan. 6 at CES 2015, according to Tech Times. These apps include MapMyRide, MapMyRun, MapMyFitness and others aimed at helping users keep up with their fitness goals.
The website provides mobile devices created for health and fitness tracking and consists of 31 million members.
"We want our products to meet the needs of every individual- whether you're training for a personal best in your next half-marathon, or a professional athlete honing your performance with a full training staff behind you," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.
The partnership is the latest move UA has made in smart fitness, having bought MapMyFitness for $150 million in late 2013 and currently sells the Armour39 wearable fitness band on its site, Digital Trends reported.
"HTC is renowned for its fearless commitment to innovation, coupled with an attention to detail and premium design that makes it the ideal partner for Under Armour and UA Record," said Robin Thurston, senior vice president of Connected Fitness at Under Armour. "By applying these shared values to our collaboration, we will allow athletes everywhere to take their performance to the next level in a more connected and intuitive way than ever before."
Both companies said the initiative will involve collaboration between UA's athletes, sports scientists and designers and HTC's engineers and designers from its Connected Products business unit, Tech Times reported.
Exactly what kind of products will be developed through the partnership, as well as a specific launch date, have yet to be revealed.
