NFL Rumors: Miami Dolphins Cutting Mike Wallace?

Man, no one seems to wear out his welcome like Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace.

First, he caused so many headaches with the Pittsburgh Steelers that they were happy to let him walk in free agency (they also had the far superior Antonio Brown to replace him, but still). Now, it seems as if Miami may have finally had enough.

Mike Tannenbaum, who was recently hired as Miami's executive vice president of football operations, said that the team will make a "responsible" decision regarding Wallace's future with the franchise. If that's not posturing for a looming move, than I don't know what is.

Tannenbaum was asked about Wallace's absence in the second half of the team's 37-24 loss to the New York Jets in the season-finale. There have been conflicting reports about the matter, with some claiming Wallace was benched and others saying he took himself out of the game.

"I want to go down there and be a good listener," Tannenbaum said of talking with Wallace. "Two sides to every story."

Wallace is due to make $9.85 million in base salary for the 2015 season. His cap hit will be $5.2 million if the Dolphins end up parting ways with him. He is guaranteed $3 million if he is still on the roster in March.

"We'll make the most responsible decision for us possible," Tannenbaum said.

Wallace doesn't even know if he'll be playing for the Dolphins next season.

"I'm not the general manager or anything, or the head coach," Wallace said. "I'm not sure."

While Wallace has been productive in Miami, he has not been able to match his numbers from his Steelers days. No one is saying that his 67 receptions for 862 yards and 10 touchdowns this year is a bust. But those numbers don't reflect the value of the $60 million deal he signed with the Dolphins in 2013. The Dolphins haven't made the playoffs in any of the years he has been with the team.

It's possible that Wallace could be playing for a new team next season.
