Michael Sam Engaged to Longtime Boyfriend Vito Cammisano?

NFL free agent Michael Sam could be heading down the aisle soon. According to Page Six, the 25-year-old got engaged to his longtime boyfriend Vito Cammisano in Rome on Sam's birthday. The two have been vacationing in Europe since Dec. 30.

Sam has not publicly confirmed the engagement, but on Jan. 7 he Instagrammed a gorgeous view of Italy and thanked fans for the birthday wishes.

"What a beautiful view from the top of St. Peter's Basilica!! Happy 25th birthday to me #vatican #Italy #birthday," he wrote.

Sam, who became the first openly gay player in the NFL last year, met Cammisano while they were attending the University of Missouri. The athlete became the SEC's co-defensive player of the year in 2013 and signed with the St. Louis Rams during the NFL draft.

A video of Sam's reaction to the news went viral when he was seen celebrating by kissing his boyfriend. He was later cut from the Rams during pre-season and briefly played on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad before being released in October.

"While this is disappointing, I will take the lessons I learned here in Dallas and continue to fight for an opportunity to prove that I can play every Sunday," Sam wrote on Twitter at the time.

In December, he addressed his release again, writing, "Despite what headlines you may read, I've never said and have never believed that I am being kept out of the league."

"I know I have talent to play in the NFL and I look forward to getting an opportunity once again to prove that I can help a team win," Sam added.
