Mike Huckabee will soon release his new book "God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy" and he comments on everything from government bailouts to pop culture, taking particular note of A-list couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé.
In an excerpt obtained by U.S. News & World Report, the former Arkansas governor chides the rap artist born Shawn Carter for possibly "exploiting" his "incredibly talented" wife. He also compared their 2014 Grammy Award performance to watching "foreplay."
"My reaction: Why? Beyoncé is incredibly talented - gifted, in fact. She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer - without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom," Huckabee wrote. "Jay-Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?"
The "pimp" comparison comes about a month after Fox News identified Jay-Z as a "former crack dealer." A true statement, but Jay-Z has since gone on to become one of the most successful hip-hop artists in history, winning 19 Grammys and founding his own entertainment company, Roc Nation. He and Beyonce also have a three-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.
Huckabee recently left his own job at Fox News to consider another run for the presidency. He plans to make an official announcement by the late spring.
"Tonight I will do more than just say goodnight. I will say goodbye. This is the last edition of 'Huckabee' on the Fox News Channel," he said to close out his final show on Jan. 3. "It's been the ride of a lifetime, and I have never had so much fun in my life. But I also realize that God hasn't put me on earth just to have a good time or to make a good living, but rather has put me on earth to try to make a good life."
The Republican politician previously ran for President of the United States in 2008, but eventually withdrew his bid for the GOP nomination, leaving John McCain as the party's candidate. He then chose not to run in 2012 against the incumbent, President Barack Obama.
"God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy" hits bookshelves on Jan. 20.
