Eric Mangini cut his teeth in the NFL as a defense-first guy. Although he worked as the tight ends coach for the San Francisco 49ers this season, it seems a return to the other side of the football may be in the works.
Mangini will interview for the open defensive coordinator position with the Washington Redskins, according to Dianna Marie Russini of NBC Washington.
Mangini previously worked as the New England Patriots' defensive coordinator in 2005 after several years as a defensive backs coach. He followed that up with two head coaching stints with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns.
The Redskins parted ways with DC Jim Haslett last week, and have also been rumored to be interested in Wade Phillips, Ed Donatell and Joe Barry. Mangini, meanwhile, interviewed for the head coaching position with the Oakland Raiders, though it is unlikely he will land the job.
