In honor of Black History Month, Nike has introduced a new collection of sneakers inspired by a variety of popular athletes and coaches.
The collection includes 12 pairs of black and white sneakers and different apparel and accessories, such as Air Jordan 1s and XX9s, according to Sports Illustrated.
Inspirations for the new sneakers include former Georgetown head coach John Thompson, Jerry Rice, Rutgers' womens basketball head coach C. Vivian Stringer, skateboarder Theotis Beasley, track star Brianna Rollins and Ghanian soccer player Kevin-Prince Boateng, among other, that have set positive examples to the world.
Other sneakers include the Kobe 9 Elite BHMs ($250), LeBron 12 BHMs ($220) and the Kyrie 1 BHMs ($130), Breitbart reported.
"Sport is an incredible platform to inspire and encourage positive social change," said Michael Jackson, vice president and general manager of Global Basketball at Nike. "Our 2015 Black History Month Collection honors and celebrates the athletes and leaders who have influenced global culture and have paved the way for out next generation."
Sports fans will be able to buy sneakers from the Black History Month collection from Nike's website starting Jan. 17, Sports Illustrated reported. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Ever Higher Fund, which aims to help underserved children through sports.
