Netflix Revives ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ As A Limited Series – Original Cast Onboard

"Wet Hot American Summer" flew under the radar when it premiered in 2001, but the movie has attracted a cult following over the past 14 years, convincing Netflix to give it a second life.

After months of negotiations, the video streaming service gave director David Wain the green light to start filming an eight-episode limited series, according to Deadline. Wain and Michael Showalter, who wrote the movie script, created the series and will serve as executive producers on the new project.

"Wet Hot American Summer" featured some of today's biggest names in Hollywood like Elizabeth Banks, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd. All four will reprise their roles along with former co-stars H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Christopher Meloni, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Marisa Ryan, Molly Shannon, Kevin Sussman and Showalter.

Netflix refused to comment on today's news, but CEO Ted Sarandos did express his excitement about the revival a few days ago at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"We're really excited about the proposition about getting the show back together," he said. "More to come."

No plot details have been revealed about the new series. The original film took place on the last day at a fictional Jewish summer camp in 1981.
