Paris-based startup Connected Cycle is looking to keep your bike from being stolen with what it calls "the first ever connected pedal."
The prototype of the web-connected device, which made its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, can help you avoid bicycle theft thanks to its GPS, and it can also send you alerts about someone trying to take it by linking up to a smart device through the Internet, according to Dezeen.
"This new high-tech equipment instantly notifies the bike owner if the bike is moved, and allows it to be located at any time," said Jean-Marie Debbasch, co-founder of Connected Cycle. "It is also able to locate where the bike was last parked."
The smart device connects to the Connected Cycle app in order to automatically record speed, route, incline and calories burned on all of your rides, making carrying a phone on rides unnecessary, Discovery News reported. Owners can program the pedal to notify them of situations immediately.
An aluminum case offers protection for the pedals, which come with five choices for color: black, blue, orange, red and green.
A special coded key is provided as the only thing that can remove the pedal from the bike, Dezeen reported.
Connected Cycle is looking into starting a crowd-funding campaign for its bike pedal and is seeking investors to get production going. The goal is to start production for the pedals later this year.
