Samsung Announces Launch for 5.5-Inch Galaxy A7 Smartphone

Samsung announced Monday that it will launch a new addition to its line of skinny smartphones.

The device, called the Galaxy A7, comes with a metal frame and a 6.3 mm (0.245 inch)-thick body, making it one of the skinniest smartphones the Korean company has unveiled, according to Mashable. Other features include a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen, a 1.8GHz quadcore processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of memory, which users can extend to 64GB with a mciroSD memory card.

A 13-megapixel camera is included on the back of the phone, as is LTE support and a 1.5GHz quadcore main processor that allows the phone to act as a dual-SIM variant.

The Galaxy A7 also comes with a small 2,600mAh battery, a 5.5-inch display and Android 4.4 Kitkat, a type of software that is seeing a great deal of popularity among smartphones at the moment, The Verge reported. The dual-SIM option will also be beneficial to the device in developing markets as well as China and Russia.

The phone is the newest, slimmer sibling of the A3 and A5, which measure 6.9mm (0.271 inches) and 6.7mm (0.264) inches, respectively.

The release date and price for the Galaxy A7 has yet to be revealed, but Samsung fans will have three color options for the new phone: Midnight Black, Pearl White and Champagne Gold.
