NFL Rumors: Jets Want Dan Quinn, Doug Marrone or Todd Bowles as Next Head Coach?

It is widely believed that the New York Jets will hire Houston Texans Director of College Scouting Mike Maccagnan as John Idzik's replacement at general manager. After the move is made official, the team is expected to quickly hire a new head coach.

But who is at the top of New York's wish list?

1. Dan Quinn

Quinn, the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, is one of the hottest names among young head coaching candidates in the league. The Jets have already sat down with Quinn and are likely to do so again in the near future. In fact, it was reported that had Seattle been bounced from the playoffs this weekend, New York officials were prepared to fly to Seattle and offer Quinn the job right on the spot.

Quinn will be unable to sign any deal until after the Seahawks finish their postseason run (which could be a while, if they continue to play like they did this weekend). However, ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini notes that Quinn is highly sought after and may elect to go elsewhere if given the opportunity.

2. Doug Marrone

Marrone opted out of his four-year deal with the Buffalo Bills after just two seasons and instantly became one of the preferred candidates by Jets decision makers. Yet, as Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported, it seems as if Marrone's interview with the Jets did not go as well as expected. While that could just be an unfounded rumor sprouting up, it's worth noting that Marrone has not been back yet for a second interview.

Marrone went 6-10 and 9-7 in two seasons as head coach of the Buffalo Bills.

3. Todd Bowles

Unlike Marrone, Bowles, the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, is set for a second sit-down with the Jets later this week. However, Bowles is being heavily courted by several teams. His name has come up for the head coaching position with the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago bears and Atlanta Falcons. It's not a surprise either, as Arizona's defense allowed the fifth-fewest points in the league this season and finished sixth in total defense last year under Bowles.
