Cote de Pablo returned to Israel as Ziva David in her final episode of "NCIS" on CBS. She returns to the region for her next CBS project, but this one takes place 2000 years ago.
De Pablo stars in the upcoming miniseries, "The Dovekeepers," based on Alice Hoffman's bestselling, critically acclaimed historical novel. Husband and wife team Roma Downey and Mark Burnett will executive produce the two-day event set to premiere on March 31.
CBS has released the first look at the four-hour limited event series that is set in ancient Israel. It tells the story of a group of extraordinary women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada. The Romans forced 900 Jews out of their homes in Jerusalem in 70 C.E. and ensconced them in a fortress at Masada, a mountain in the Judean desert, where they held out for months against the vast Roman armies.
The show will recount the events from the different perspectives of the women who arrive at Masada with unique backstories, but a common bond for survival. They all work together as dovekeepers, but also harbor significant secrets.
De Pablo plays Shirah, who is a "sensual, mysterious and fiercely independent single mother with uncanny insights and a quiet, mysterious power," according to CBS. Many call her the "Witch of Moab" because she practices forbidden magic. Those in need still will seek her out for her knowledge of herbal remedies and generous spirit.
"The Dovekeepers" also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Kathryn Prescott, Diego Boneta and Sam Neill.
The first two hours premiere on Tuesday, March 31 at 9 p.m. and finishes on Wednesday, April 1 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
