James Gandolfini Dead: Autopsy Results Reveal Cause of Death of 51-Year-Old Actor

Days following his death, an autopsy was performed on James Gandolfini and Friday, the results of the autopsy have come in.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Gandolfini died of a heart attack and that there was no substances found in his body nor was foul play involved in the death of the actor.

"Nothing out of the ordinary ... there was no foul play, there was no substance abuse," Michael Kobold said. Kobold was selected by the family to address the media.

"He had a wonderful day. He visited the Vatican and had dinner at the hotel with his son, awaiting the arrival of his (Gandolfini's) sister," Kobold said. "He was on vacation with his son, he has an eight-month-old daughter. Everything was going really great. I just spoke to him on Father's Day. He was fine, he was happy. He was a good guy," Kobold said.

Gandolfini was in Italy for the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily and was scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the festival on Saturday. When Kobold was ask if Gandolfini was having any health complications prior to the heart attack, he said "no. He was happy. He was healthy. He was doing really fine."

The body is still in Italy and plans on flying the body back to New York for a funeral later next week. Wednesday night, ambulances were called to the Boscolo Exedra Hotel where Gandolfini was staying with his wife and children. At about 10:40pm, Gandolfini was pronounced dead. The actor was 51 years old.

Gandolfini was best known for his portrayal of Tony Soprano on "The Sopranos" which garnered him three Emmys and a Golden Globe.
